Progression Painting days 3 and 4

This was a short painting day.  I feel that the paint needs to dry
before finishing Payton's face and putting in the final shadows
and highlights.  View some of my finished paintings at
http://www.maryopat.com and thanks for visiting my blog page!

Day 4 and I'm pretty close to finished.  As always, I need
to step away for awhile and look with fresh eyes.
Happy Tuesday!

progression days 1 and 2

I decided to post my progress on this day by day.  This is
day one.  Pretty rough, but I'm happy with the composition so far.
If you start to recognize the darling little girl in this painting at
some point, don't tell, it's going to be a surprise for her!

It's the end of day 2 and I've started some detail work.
Time sure flies when you're having fun!

"Goose, Goose, Duck! " Contemporary Water Scene by Arizona Oil Painter Mary Opat

"Goose, Goose, Duck!" Original Landscape Oil Painting by
Arizona Artist Mary Opat

14" x 11" Oil on Canvas

I took the photo used in this painting in Davenport, IA while
visiting my sister, Pam.  I was amused when I realized that
the geese were swimming in the opposite direction and
it reminded me of the game we played as children, Duck, duck, goose.

This painting was inspired by a photo taken by my niece and

The paintings I'm working on today are both Mississippi River scenes.
It's been awhile since I've painted water and it's a nice change.

"Sandie" Contemporary Landscape and Figurative Oil Paintings by Arizona Artist Mary Opat

"Sandie" Contemporary Horse Portrait by
Arizona Artist Mary Opat

14" x 18" Oil on Canvas

I've decided to paint a series of horses and this is the first one.  I was going
to try for a loose effect, but I think it goes against my nature.
Maybe the next one!  This painting has been SOLD.
